I just wanted to share an interesting article I stumbled on chillyoislamyo.com

What Muslims Should Know About The Fever
by chillyoislamyo

Salam yo,

Sorry for not posting for the last two days. Fever

Since I’ve been stuck with a fever, I decided to do some research and wanted to see if being afflicted with the fever means anything from an Islamic perspective.

I’m going to do a Hadith blitz on you so get ready.

The first Hadith I came across stated :

Narrated by Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira (radhi-Allahu-’anhuma) :

Allah’s Messenger (salla-Allaahu-’alayhi-wa-sallam) said :

“No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.”

In another Hadith :

Narrated by ‘Abdullah (radhi-Allahu-’anhu) :

I visited Allah’s Messenger (salla-Allaahu-’alayhi-wa-sallam) while he was suffering from a high fever.

I said, “O Allah’s Apostle ! You have a high fever.”

He said, “Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you.”

I said, “Is it because you will have a double reward ?”

He said, “Yes, it is so. No Muslim is afflicted with any harm, even if it were the prick of a thorn, but that Allah expiates his sins because of that, as a tree sheds its leaves.”

Feeling better already ? Haha, well you better.

Now it gets really interesting :

The Prophet forbade the cursing of fever by saying: “Do not curse a fever because it abolishes sins like fire abolishes dirt from iron.” [Ibn Maajah]

He also describes the intensity of fever by saying :

“Fever is coal from hell, get rid of it by using cold water.” [Ibn Maajah]

I’ll end with an excerpt from Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (R) book:

Fever Islam

WOW ! I never knew the fever had this much significance in Islam.
